Berry Chia Jam is a perfect way to preserve a surfeit of these amazing fruits. The added touch here, beyond the fruit and chia seeds, is orange juice, and a little bit of maple syrup in case the berries are not sweet enough.

Ingredients

Because this recipe is so easy to make, it’s a great choice to use your fresh summer berries. It’s also ideal to make with frozen berries for other times of year.

  • 2 cups fresh or frozen berries of your choice
  • 2 Tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 Tbsp orange juice
  • 1 Tbsp maple syrup
All ingredients placed on a white board.

How To Make Berry Chia Jam

  • Place berries in a bowl and microwave for 5 minutes.
  • Mash the fruit with a potato masher, a fork or the back of a spatula. You can make this as smooth or chunky as you’d like. It all depends on how you like your jam.
  • Stir in the chia seeds and orange juice. Taste the jam and then decide if you want to add sweetener. Start with one tablespoon, if desired, and adjust from there.
  • The jam will thicken as it cools. Once it has cooled, transfer into an airtight jar and store in the fridge for 1-3 weeks or up to three months in the freezer.
  • It makes about 1.5 cups

This turned out perfectly. I skipped the maple syrup and added agave instead since that’s all I had. So good!
